March 24, 2019

It has been a lame day for weather enthusiasts. There was a bit of severe weather in the Texas and Oklahoma region. A few Tornado Warnings were issued, and there were even a couple of funnels and small tornados actually sited. But for those who glue themselves to the feeds of the top chasers in the Midwest, it was an uneventful day.

Yes, I checked YouTube to see if anyone was actually in the right place at the right time. Some of them managed to roll through the aftermath of a hail core. Reed Timmer was nowhere near a tornadic storm during the time that I was checking on him. For the most part it was an uneventful day, and this is a good thing. No Tornados means no damage, means no one gets hurt, no one loses a trailer.

This was the highlight of the afternoon while I was watching radar. A Tornado warned thunderstorm of which spotters reported a small tornado in the beginning and funnels near the end of the storms tornadic tendencies. Pardon the mess, but as you can see, I even had the tablet set up so that I could follow a couple of chasers, and in this moment, the chaser wasn’t even near the storm on the radar.

With rain in the forecast, even with a chance of thunderstorms, it was nice of the NWS Station in Pleasant Hill to be offline for access by most android and windows software. It seemed like the only place that had access to current radar (my software showing 10:46am as the last update). Even as I write this article, the NWS feed shows to be offline. Even the short range radar at KCI airport shows to be offline at this particular time. Sounds like a server error. I found myself using the radar from Topeka and Wichita to get an idea of what was around us for weather. Thankfully, the weather that we were allegedly going to get did not arrive, but they are still calling for Thunderstorms through tomorrow morning.

Again, thankfully, boredom is the note of the day…
