It’s Severe Weather Season Again

March 13, 2024 kicked off Severe Weather Season for me here in Kansas City. Tornado Watch #37 was issued across Easter Kansas and Western Missouri, and while we had Severe Thunderstorms here in Kansas City, the only storms that were Tornado warned were out west of Topeka Kansas. A tornado was verified, and looking it up on YouTube, Reed Timmer and Team Dominator were actually on the chase, catching video of the tornado along with others.

So, I have my radar software up and ready. I have a new set up for bringing information to the screen in front of me. Working with a 4k UHD 120hz 34″ curved monitor as my main monitor, I can bring up a lot of information at once. Once again, I will be working with RadarOmega and/or Gibson Ridge L3 on Windows, and RadarScope and RadarOmega on my android screens.

So, what do I do? I track rain and wind conditions showing on radar, looking for areas of concern. I have several products that I can look at to search out and track Tornadic cells (like the rain and wind split screen above). I use this information to keep a certain group of people advised of the conditions around the area. In the past I would advise a spotter of hot areas to go chase so that he could focus on driving and filming and less on radar.

This is a hobby for me. No one pays me to do this. I don’t have funding to pay for premium weather products from Allison House or other premium services. I haven’t invested the money to have GR Analysis at my disposal (but I do fine without it). And I am not really looking to become a member of a team, I have no desire to go out into the storms anymore and chase. I do just fine watching certain live feeds and tracking on radar.
