Snow-mageddon

I know I haven’t said much in the past couple of months. And its been a very long time since I’ve talked about the weather. It seems that the only weather discussions I can be relevant with are the storms during the winter. We can watch them come in. There is time for people who remember my weather page to find their way to my blog and see if I’ve been watching the incoming storms. Well, most of us have been watching the weather reports the past several days, and the best anyone can come up with is that we are expecting .1 to .25 inches of ice. Could be more, depending on the track of the Low pushing this storm along, could be less. As it stands as of 6:33AM, the heaviest ice will be south of Kansas City, approximately Harrisonville and south. We will have to see what the afternoon models bring. Kansas City proper is looking at .01 to .1 inches of ice on average.

Snowfall: My wife has the best prediction I’ve heard for snowfall amounts. She is saying that we could be getting between a dusting and 2 foot of snow. According to the Friday morning (6:33am) model, Kansas City proper is looking at around 7-13 inches of snow, on top of the ice I mentioned above. St Joseph Missouri is where the greatest snow fall is expected, following a line along I-36, with predictions of 9-16 inches inside that track.

Now, I have learned to live by a statement that a meteorologist told a group I was sitting with regarding weather predictions. If it’s 48 hours or more out, it’s still a coin toss. We have all sat back and watched storms bear down on Kansas City in the past, the confidence very high that we were going to be hit and hit hard just have the storm turn and go north, or south, even around us, and do nothing spectacular. The closer we get to the weather event, the more certain people will become of what is going to happen. But again, we’ve seen storms on our doorstep that never hit Kansas City. But it is far better to be prepared for the worst than be caught without being prepared.

Snow-mageddon: Winter is Coming!h Ice and Snow. Warnings that roads could become very treacherous. We could become trapped in our homes. Places like Walmart will become overrun with people looking for ice-melt, snow shovels, ice scrapers. Grocery stores will be overrun by people who are acting as if they are going to be trapped in their homes, that they will not be able to get supplies, for weeks. it will be interesting to see how hard the Dispensaries get as people could be cut off from their weed for … who knows, two days maybe? Everyone will be going out and filling up their gas tanks for their cars (like anyone is thinking they’ll be driving).

Yes, my wife and I went out and did a little shopping ahead of the storm, and somewhat ahead of the rush by others. My wife was down to a quarter tank of gas so yes, she filled up. I bought deicer windshield fluid for the vehicles, because well, it’s that time of year again and I needed it for the truck. We all do our own level of preparation for bad weather, but I’m not stocking up like I’m not going to get out of the house next week.

So, here is how I am looking at it. The ice could be the problems on Saturday evening into Sunday. Roads could be a problem with the ice and snow until early Monday morning. But we will survive. We will find our way out onto the streets on Monday. Some children will go to school despite the below-freezing temperatures on Monday, and even Tuesday morning. But at worst we’ll all be out and somewhat back to normal by Wednesday, but most of us before then.
